QUEZON CITY, Philippines, June 4, 2026 — Representatives from the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) visited the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) at its headquarters in Eastwood City, Quezon City, to explore opportunities for collaboration on a potential Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) initiative in the Philippines.

Joining the QCSP delegation was Ishan Basyal, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific at SpeQtral, a company developing satellite-based quantum-secure communication technologies. The meeting focused on identifying possible pathways for establishing a QKD project that could contribute to the country’s future quantum-secure communications capabilities.

The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Reinabelle Reyes, who provided a tour of PhilSA’s facilities before the formal discussions. The visit gave participants an opportunity to learn more about the agency’s ongoing programs and its role in advancing the Philippine space sector.

During the meeting, the group discussed the potential role of space technologies in supporting quantum-secure communications and exchanged ideas on how a future QKD initiative could be developed in the Philippines. As part of the discussion, Dr. Reyes suggested that QCSP prepare and submit a white paper outlining the concept, objectives, and possible implementation approaches for such a project, which could serve as a basis for further evaluation and collaboration.

The discussions highlighted the growing intersection between quantum technologies and space-based infrastructure, areas that are increasingly attracting attention worldwide as governments and organizations prepare for the transition to post-quantum cybersecurity.

Following the meeting, the participants continued their conversations over lunch at UCC Café, discussing potential next steps and opportunities for cooperation among stakeholders in the Philippine quantum and space technology ecosystems.
