QCSP Introduces Quantum Programming to Philippine Science High School Interns Using SpinQ Gemini

The Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) brought quantum computing closer to young Filipino learners through an interactive presentation and demonstration for students participating in a Summer Internship Program organized by Dr. Henry N. Adorna.

QCSP President Bobby O. Corpus Jr. was invited to deliver a session titled “Quantum Programming via SpinQ Gemini,” introducing students to the fundamental principles of quantum computing, quantum circuits, and the process of running programs on an actual quantum computer.

Dr. Adorna, a senior adviser to QCSP, is a professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of the Philippines Diliman. His research interests include discrete mathematics, automata and formal language theory, algorithms for hard problems, and natural computing—including membrane and quantum computing. He is also the founder of the department’s Algorithms and Complexity Laboratory.

The Summer Internship Program brought together students from different campuses of the Philippine Science High School System, giving them opportunities to explore advanced fields in science and computing under the guidance of researchers and practitioners.

During the session, Corpus explained how quantum programs are constructed using quantum gates and circuits. The students then gathered around the SpinQ Gemini desktop quantum computer to examine the device and learn how quantum circuits are submitted and executed on real quantum-computing hardware.

The students interacted with the SpinQ software platform, examined a quantum circuit, and viewed the resulting measurement probabilities on screen. The demonstration transformed concepts often encountered only through equations and simulations into a tangible learning experience.

Students actively participated throughout the activity by asking questions, inspecting the device, and observing the results produced by the quantum computer.

Through initiatives such as this, QCSP continues to make quantum technologies more accessible to young Filipinos and help develop the country’s future generation of quantum researchers, educators, and technology innovators.
